Mrs. Florence Thais Ames Goddard

Florence ‘Thais’ Ames Goddard, daughter of the late Gerry Lionel Ames and Madgia Hyslop Ames, was born July 7, 1978. Thais departed this earthly journey on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Thais graduated from Richland Northeast High School in 1996.  She received her Associates in Early Childhood Education in 2011 and later received her Bachelor of Arts in English in 2015 from the University of Phoenix. Thais was a compassionate and wonderful childcare provider who loved teaching children. Throughout her career as a childcare provider, Thais was the director and owner of several childcare businesses always making the care and education of children a priority. She served diligently in youth ministry for many years, often using the moniker, D.E.N.Y.M-Devine Eloquent Nurturing Youth Minister. Lady DENYM loved denim clothing and shoes so much that she was seen wearing denim frequently.

Thais had the voice of an angel and enjoyed ministering through song and poetry. She wrote many songs, and professionally recorded two of them, “Family Reunion” and “Free”. Her poetry was inspiring and uplifting, often read at events.

Thais was united in Holy Matrimony to William Keith Goddard in 2007. They separated in 2008 but remained the loving parents of Alyssa Goddard.

Thais leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Gerry Lionel Ames, II; a loving daughter, Alyssa Machelle Goddard; a devoted step-daughter, Tatyana M. Goddard; two sisters, La’Keisha (Joseph) Ames Williams  and Alethea (Aaron) Ames Brooks both of Summerville, SC; one brother, Antonio (Shekee)  Drummond of Newport News, VA; one grandchild, Armani Goddard-Stinson; grandmother, Helen Harmon Rowley; one niece, Xena Williams; one nephew, Darius Williams; nine aunts, Claudette Davis, Linda Johnson, Ruthellen (Alfonso)  Rickerson, Annette Spady, Charity Thomas, Ann (Morris) Thomas, Shirley Harmon, Altha (Charles) Gaskins , Candace Hyslop; four uncles, Vern (Carolyn) Hyslop, Jonathan (Leanda)  Rowley, Timothy (Miiko) Rowley, Stanley Ames; her best friend of 35 years, Manequa Rudolph; and a host of loving cousins, other relatives, and special friends.
