George “Teddy” Free, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina was born on September 6, 1939 to the late George and Rozenia Free, Sr. He departed this earthly journey on Friday, August 9, 2019.
George was educated in the public schools of Richland County and attended Booker T. Washington High School. Soon after high school, he was drafted into the United State Army and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1968.
George was a man of many skills. He owned and operated Free Masonry Brick Company, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Brick Mason Association. George was a builder at heart. In addition to building his own home, he also built the home of Alex English and many other homes in the Greater Columbia area. He also built a church parsonage for the pastor and family.
George and his late wife, Easilite, served as foster parents for over twenty-five years. He was a devoted husband and father figure to those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Easilite Seawright Free and his sister, Rozenia “Von” Washington.
George leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Easilite Renita (Calvin) Free-Priester; five sons, Reggie (Latrell) Free, Ronald (Tracey) Free, Ramsey (Brenda) Free, Walter (Vicenza) Free and Warren (Rochelle) Free; two sisters, Barbara Free and Judy (Barnett) Free; five brothers, Jerry Free, Joseph (Von) Free, Freddie (Shirley) Free, David (Sherri) Free and James Free; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
