Ms. Nellie Portee Thompson

Nellie “Spic” Portee Thompson was born February 14, 1948 to the late Isabell Wilson and Nathaniel Brown.  She was the fourth of ten children born to Isabell. Nellie was raised by her grandmother Francis in Hopkins, South Carolina.   There, she attended Hopkins Junior High School.

She was outgoing, personable and always there to help.  As a special needs bus driver for 28 years, Nellie touched the hearts of many in countless ways.  As a stroke survivor, she was willing to share her story and her faith in the Lord that He will always bring you through.  Her kind heart exceeded her. Her love for others was extraordinary.   Most importantly her faith and love for our Lord and Savior was everlasting.   Nellie had an open ear for all those who confided in her. She always had advice, kind words and a prayer made just for you.  To know her was to love her.  Even as she battled cancer, Nellie continued to lead her family and friends in prayer.   Only to be called home to  her Lord  at 6:25 am on August 19, 2018. Truly, an angel on earth has been set free amongst the Heavens. 

May her legacy of faith, love and kindness lives on in her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family and extended love ones.
