SFC (Ret.) Kevin M. Mitchell

Kevin Marcelle Mitchell, affectionately known as Mitch, was born on August 7, 1963, in Virginia Beach, Virginia to the late Thomas and Sarah Mitchell. He departed his earthly journey on August 15, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Kevin was educated in the Virginia Beach City Public School system at Cooke Elementary, Virginia Beach Junior High, and graduated from First Colonial High School, Class of 1981. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Performance Improvement from Grantham University.

Kevin joined the United States Army in October 1989.  He served his country for 22 years and retired in September 2011. During his tenure in the United States Army, he was stationed in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kosovo, Qatar, Kentucky, California, North Carolina and South Carolina.  While enlisted, he received several medals and awards to include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service, Korean Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal. Following retirement, he continued to serve his country as a government contractor.

Kevin enjoyed playing basketball and baseball.  He loved to sing, dance, and listen to music.  He had impeccable skills in drawing, painting, and construction. He was also a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Kevin dedicated his life to his family and friends. He had a way of uplifting people and making them laugh. He was always the life of the party. He had a genuine heart and a caring spirit. To know Kevin was to love him.

In addition to his parents, Kevin was predeceased in death by his brother, Michael Mitchell; and sister, Jacqueline Blount.

Kevin leaves to cherish memories to his loving wife of 32 years, Rhonda Mitchell; two sons, Kevin Woodhouse and Marcelle Mitchell; one daughter, Tamara Bright; two brothers, Keith and Barry Mitchell; five sisters; Patricia Owens, Betty (Eddie) Woodhouse, Cynthia Short, Lisa (Kenneth) Givens, Robin (Terrence) Hubbard; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
