Reverend John “BoBo” Cunningham
John Edward Cunningham was born January 12, 1952 in Blythewood, SC to the late Matthew
and Earline Cunningham and departed his life to be with the Lord on Friday, March 6, 2026.
John, is affectionately known by many as ‘BoBo’, was the eighth of thirteen children. He
attended Bethel Hanberry School, graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1971. He was a
hard worker and began working at an early age and worked on several jobs throughout and
after high school. He was a great basketball player and golfer, where he won several awards
and championships. He earned a Divinity Degree from the Columbia Bible College in
Columbia, SC.
At an early age, he joined and was baptized at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC. He
worked for various bread companies, various trucking companies and owned his own
landscaping
business. He retired as a Trainer from TMC transport in Columbia, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Matthew, Jr., Walter and King
David.
John leaves to cherish his loving memory: three children, Joseph E Cunningham of Columbia,
SC, Kendra D Cunningham of Rock Hill, SC and Joshua S Cunningham of Jacksonville, FL;
grandson Kendrell D Chambers; three brothers, Robert (Thilmore) Cunningham, James
(Gertrude) Cunningham, and Rev. Dr. Bobby (Linda) Cunningham all of Columbia, SC; six
sisters, Ethel (Herman) Graham and Mattie (James) Spradley of Philadelphia, PA, Doris Bell,
Shirley Mitchell, Debbie Harrison, and Linda (Richard) McCray, all of Columbia, SC; a special
daughter, Jasmine C Thompson of Gadsden, SC, a special grandson, Jaden M Gibbs; a host of
nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and friends, all of whom will miss him
dearly.
