Reverend Eddie Roy Jackson was born December 21, 1951 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to the late Leonard Jackson and Mattie Jackson. From the union of his parents, he was the oldest of two
children. On October 29, 2024, he went home to be with his heavenly father.
Eddie was educated in the schools of Florien, Louisiana. After graduation, he decided to serve his country, leading him join the United States Marine Corps. He served for a total of six years.
During his service, he completed two tours in the Vietnam. Upon returning home, his love for different cuisines led him to pursue a degree in culinary arts in Richmond, Virginia.
Eddie was blessed with one son, his name sake, Eddie Roy Jackson, Jr., who preceded him death. Eddie relocated to South Carolina to care for his mother. A few years after relocating, his mother passed away. At the funeral of his mother, he met the love of his life, Lady Jessie Mae Goodson, who had been asked to sing at the funeral. After three months of courtship, Eddie knew that Jessie Mae was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. They were wed July 21, 1990.
Eddie loved the Lord and honored Him. Upon relocating to South Carolina, Eddie made Second Nazareth Baptist Church his church, which was the home church of his wife Jessie Mae. Eddie
was baptized in his younger years while living in Louisiana, but rededicated his life and was baptized a second time at Second Nazareth Baptist Church. He was called to the ministry in 1992, under the leadership of the late Reverend William McKinley Bowman, Sr. In 1996, Reverend Jackson was called to pastor Gaines Baptist Church in Camden, SC. He served as pastor for 23 years, and retired in 2019. Some of his most memorable sermons are: “A Praying Church” (Acts 16:25-34), “A God Sent Man” (John 1:6) and “The Power of Prayer” (Mark 11:24 and Philippians 4:6).
Reverend Jackson loved his wife and his family. Though he and Lady Jackson never birth their own children, together they aided in the nurturing of so many. In true fashion, Reverend Jackson
assisted in caring for his cousin, Corey Johnson. His past times consisted of mentoring young men, preaching and teaching the Gospel. His fondest hobby was FISHING! Reverend Jackson
had a free spirit and was willing to help anyone that he could.
Reverend Jackson was employed with Long Foundation Drilling Company, in Nashville, TN. This job required him to travel extensively across the US, from Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and abroad. He worked faithfully for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents and his son, Reverend Jackson was preceded in death by; his step-mother, Claudia M. Jackson; and his siblings, Leonard Earl Jackson, Alma Williams and Ezekiel
Jackson.
Reverend Eddie Roy Jackson leaves to cherish fond memories with his wife of 34 years, Lady Jessie Mae Jackson; his daughter, Lisa Willingham; granddaughter, LaToya Willingham; siblings, Shirley Smith, Edward (Shelia) Jackson, Cornelius Jackson, Troy Foster, Connie Jackson and Mattie J. Ross; an adoptive son, Corey Johnson; two special mentees, Greg James and Rev. Ryan Warren; very close friends, Kenny Ray Maxey, Tommie McElveen and Rev. Ronald Williams; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, mentees, and many other close friends who will miss him tremendously.
