Reverend Curtis Carnell Bush was born December 19, 1975 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Mr. Henry Curtis Wise and Ms. Brenda Bush Dennis.
A TIME TO PLANT
Curtis grew up and received his early education in the public schools of Richland County District One. He learned his leadership skills through his affiliation with the 4-H Club, Boy Scouts of America, and South Carolina Fair Share. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1994.
At an early age, Curtis was baptized into the body of Christ at Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church, Columbia, South Carolina under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Lewis Gunter. He grew up participating in the life of the church as a member of the Youth and Children’s Ministry, the Junior Usher Board, the Male Chorus and as a Drummer. He later joined the Meeting Place Church International under the leadership of Bishop Eric Freeman, where he was ordained as a Deacon in 2002; licensed as a minister in 2002 and later ordained to preach the gospel in 2004 as an Elder. In 2015, he renewed his membership at Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lewis Gunter, where he was officially ordained as a Baptist minister in May 2018.
A TIME TO LOVE
In 1996, Curtis met the love of his life, the former Demetra Chavice Simpkins. After a long courtship, they were joined together in holy matrimony in February 2005. To this union one child was born, Miss Lauren Caroline Bush. He was a devoted husband to his wife and took great joy in being a father to “Beanie”, as he affectionately called Lauren. He loved family, celebrating their accomplishments and spending time together.
A TIME TO STUDY
After graduation from high school, Curtis enrolled in the University of South Carolina and later graduated from Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. He later studied theology at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (now Lenoir Rhyne University) in Columbia, South Carolina in pursuit of a Master of Divinity degree.
A TIME TO SERVE
Curtis was employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina in the National Alliance Department for fifteen (15) years and later accepted a position as a Call Center Manager with AFLAC in 2014. He served dutifully until his death.
A TIME TO DIE
Curtis transitioned into the eternal presence of the Lord on Tuesday morning, October 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by a brother, Terrance C. Bush.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish profound memories, a loving and devoted wife of 13 years Mrs. Demetra Chavice Simpkins Bush; one daughter, Miss Lauren Caroline Bush; his mother, Ms. Brenda Bush Dennis of Columbia, SC; four sisters, Ms. Tasha Williams of Philadelphia, PA, Ms. Kimberly Wise of Charleston, SC, Ms. Whitney Moody and Mrs. Kassandra (Alvin) Henry of Columbia, SC; one brother, Elder James “John” (Sybil) Bush of Columbia, SC; three nephews; one niece; fifteen uncles; twelve aunts; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
