Ms. Rosa Helen Toland entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on March 10, 1954 in Newberry County, South Carolina to the late Mrs. Rubie Nancy Nelums Gleaton and the late Mr. Evans Toland, Sr.
Helen, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Newberry County and was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School. Later, Helen furthered her education receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business.
Helen was employed at Gleamns Head Start in Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to that, she was a supervisor at Kentucky Fried Chicken for over 30 years.
Helen dedicated her life to her family, loved ones and church. She was a member of Friendship A.M.E. Church in Columbia, South Carolina where she was very active. She was a member of the Steward Board, served as a Stewardess, PME of the Missionary, participated with the Health Ministry, Church Sexton, and the Pastor’s worship leader. In all of her works, she always had a smile on her face and laughter in her voice.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mrs. Rubie Nancy Nelums Gleaton and the late Mr. Evans Toland, Sr.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include three brothers, Evans (LeVelma) Toland and Larry (Betty) Toland both of Prosperity, SC and Jay (Lamorris) Gleaton of Blythewood, SC; four sisters, Ruby Lindler and Patricia (Johney) Oxner both of Prosperity, SC, Carolyn (Herman) Wilson of Columbia, SC and Melonie P. Foster of the home; three uncles, James Corley and Henry (Florine) Toland both of Little Mountain, SC and Curtis Nelson (LeAnna) of Hopkins, SC; four God-children, Marcellus Bowers, Dontae Benjamin, Zyerik Lindler, and Lisa Jackson; her dearest friend and caretaker, Mrs. Alice Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends who all will miss her dearly.
