Ms. Patricia Ann Young Piper Obituary

Patricia Piper, the daughter of James and the late Lovator McCollum Young, was born June 28, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina.  She departed this earthly journey on August 1, 2020.

Patricia was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School, Class of 1967.  Patricia gained certifications in WordPerfect and Telephone Management in 1984.  She attended the Governor’s Office Division of Employment and Training (1984-1987).  She was chosen as the Most Outstanding Receptionist in the Governor’s Office and was interviewed on Educational TV in 1985.

In 1986, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin Piper of Chester, South Carolina.

At an early age, Patricia was baptized at Central Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina where she served as a choir member.  Her family moved their membership to New Ebenezer Baptist Church and she continued her ministry, spreading the Word of God, as a singer with the WM Fair Singers and the Gospel Chimes.  She later moved her membership to First Nazareth Baptist Church and continued serving on the choir.

In 1996, Patricia was employed with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance as a Claims Representative. Patricia and her husband were owners of Piper’s Florist in Chester, South Carolina (1987-1996).  She began a successful career as an Administrative Assistant for the Black Pages in 1998 and retired in 2014.  To honor her husband, Patricia continued the legacy of serving the community by working at Leevy’s Funeral home.

Patricia was preceded in death by her mother, Lovator McCollum Young; husband, Benjamin Piper; and a brother, Richard Young.

Patricia is lovingly remembered by her father, Deacon James Young of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, James Young, III of Columbia, South Carolina, Wilbert R.
