Murvell Rivers was born on August 6, 1949, to the late Murphy Rivers, Jr. and Vernell L. Rivers. She transitioned into eternal rest on September 1, 2024, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Murvell attended Richard Carroll Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Richard Carroll High School, Class of 1969. Murvell later attended Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College where she received her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Murvell was a faithful active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. As a member she served as a dedicated member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Gospel Choir, a
Communion Stewardess, Class Leader and a United Methodist Women of Faith. Murvell spent her time doing the things she loved which included teaching, sewing, decorating, traveling and
growing flowers.
Murvell’s precious memories will be cherished by her loving memories her daughter, Kirsten Anderson; two grandchildren, Rechod Johnson and Kemora Johnson of San Antonio, TX; mother, Vernelle L. Rivers of Bamberg, SC; two sisters, Loretta (Gerald) Outin of Columbia SC, and Janice Rivers of Bamberg SC; two brothers, Craig (Janice) Rivers of Orangeburg SC, and Rodney Rivers of Bamberg SC; one aunt, Lola Belle Rivers of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, whom she loved dearly.
