Mozelle Phillips Smith was given the gift of life on July 8, 1925, in Swansea, South Carolina. She was daughter of the late Grover and Hattie Major Phillips. At the age of 95, she peacefully transitioned to eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Mozelle received her formal education in Lexington County Public Schools.
Mozelle’s life was full of joy, love and affection. She was the matriarch and glue of the family. She was also a proud and devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church - College Place in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mozelle enjoyed fishing, jigsaw puzzles, and board/card games. But most importantly, and above all else, car riding and eating. She had a zest for life and always tried to live as her creator intended.
Mozelle was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Smith, Sr.; daughter, Phyllis Benjamin; seven brothers, Grover Phillips, Deddrick Phillips, Warren Phillips, Willie Phillips, Chester Phillips, Charles Phillips, and Cleaster Phillips; and one sister, Mary Phillips.
Those left to cherish precious memories are her children, Betty Johnson, Marion Smith, Sandra Samuel, Veleria Wilson, Dennis Smith, Arthur Smith, Jr., Ronny Smith and Eric Smith; a sister, Thelma Jeffcoat; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
