Ms. Maudena Hayden Obituary

Maudena Helen Ray Hayden was born on February 28, 1924 in Auburn, New York to the late Nelson Warren Ray, Sr. and Mabel Reed Ray. Maudena departed this earthly journey on January 31, 2020 at the age of 95 years old.

Maudena married Charles “Chuck” William Hayden, on September 29, 1945. In 1961 they welcomed their first and only child, Crystal Lynn.

Maudena was a dedicated employee with Welch Allyn, Inc. and retired in June of 1989 after 20 years of service. After retirement she worked part-time at Martin’s Jewelers for several years. In addition to her employment, Maudena sold Avon Products for over 40 years. She was affectionately known as “The Avon Lady” in her community of Auburn, NY.

Maudena and Chuck moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1996 to be near their daughter and two grandchildren. While living in Columbia, Maudena worked part-time at Dillard’s Department Store at the age of 72 until she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Maudena lived her life to the fullest. She was a twenty two year breast cancer survivor who enjoyed meeting new people and traveling to new places. Maudena made a lasting impression on everyone she met, with her feisty spirit and generous heart.

Maudena was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” William Hayden; parents, Nelson and Mabel Ray, Sr.; sisters, Verna Ray Stamper and Rosamond F. Ray; and brothers, Nelson Ray, Jr., Howard A. Ray, and Richard I. Ray.

Maudena leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughter, Crystal Lynn (Selwyn) Hayden Young; grandson, Chad (Charlene) Clay; granddaughter, Chelsea Clay; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hailey, and Adonis; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.
