Ms. Mary S. Wilson was born 89 years ago to the late Mr. and Mrs. Prince Wilson on June 12, 1932. On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, while surrounded by her family and loved ones, she peacefully took her rest after faithfully serving our Lord.
In her early twenties, she moved to New York settling in the Bronx. While living in New York, Ms. Wilson was employed at Meyer Kulish & Son Jewelry Co. and became one of the first black female diamond setters in Manhattan. Later in life she bought her first home in Brentwood New York on Long Island where she opened her home to many children within the foster care system. Ms. Wilson took great pride in her gardening skills where she grew many beautiful flowers and fruit trees that family along with friends enjoyed. Outside of gardening, Sheepshead Bay was one of her favorite places to catch a boat to go deep sea fishing and boy could she fish!
In the nineties Ms. Wilson moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia where she was a faithful member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. There she was an active member on the: Mother’s Board, Clothes Closet, Food Pantry and of course the Senior Fishing Club. In 2017 Ms. Wilson moved to Columbia, South Carolina and joined Zion Hopewell FGFWC. There she became the mother of the church and thoroughly enjoyed attending noonday services as well as being part of The Women of Destiny.
Mother Wilson was preceded in death by her parents Prince and Marie Wilson; brother, Clarence Wilson; sister, Eva Nell W. Fairley; nephews, Lawrence Wilson, Joseph Wilson, and Samuel “Sammy” Wilson; and niece, Lorraine Roach.
