Ms. Mary Hart

Ms. Mary L. Simmons Hart, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted servant of the Lord, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, while a resident at Prisma Health Richland. She was 70 years old.

Born on July 30, 1954, in Washington, DC, Mary was raised in the heart of the nation's capital. She later married James Earl Hart, with whom she had her cherished daughter, Shawna L. Hart. After receiving secretarial training upon high school graduation, she worked for a law firm, applying her skills with grace and dedication.

In 2002, Mary relocated with her daughter to Columbia, SC, where she made her home for the last 23 years, becoming an integral part of the community. A proud grandmother, she delighted in the lives of her grandchildren, Adrienne Hart of Greenville, SC, and Justin Hart, who currently resides in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Mary was a devoted member of the East Lake Community and lived her life in service to her family, friends, and her unwavering faith. She was known for her radiant love for Jesus Christ, and she was never hesitant to share the goodness of God with those around her. She was truly a bright light for the Kingdom, touching countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and belief in God's grace.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Selena Rish Simmons, and her daughter, Shawna L. Hart. Her legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on through her grandchildren and all who had the honor of knowing her.

Mary’s family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice or to the East Lake Community Church.

She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Adrienne Hart of Greenville, SC, and Justin Hart of Kuwait City, Kuwait, and will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

A private memorial service will be held in her honor. May she rest in eternal peace, in the arms of her Savior.
