Our beloved Margaret Ann Staples, 76, was born December 19, 1944 in Trenton, New Jersey to Anna Ruth Silver and James Ellis Silver. She departed this life on March 24, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
As a child, she and her sister, Anita, grew up in both Boston, Massachusetts and Trenton, New Jersey. Margaret was educated in Trenton Public Schools and attended Mercer County Community College. During her time as an adult in Trenton, she worked for the Mayor’s office and was an incredibly active leader and activist in her community. She was instrumental in cleaning up drugs and crime in her neighborhood of Donnelly Homes.
Always a devoted servant of God, Margaret recently traveled to Africa to do missionary work in poverty-stricken areas. In addition, she was in her final weeks of studying to become a minister.
Margaret was predeceased by her son, James Ellis Grant, Sr. and son-in-law, Eugene Holdbrooks.
Margaret leaves behind four daughters, Bercenia Grant-Holdbrooks, Lorena Knight, Tina (Doug) White, Asiya Grant, her companion Horace L. Robertson; as well as one daughter-in-law, Genevieve Grant; her sister, Anita Brown; seventeen grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family, and many other friends.
