Ms. Josephine McDonald Obituary

Early Monday morning, October 4, 2021 Our Father in heaven searched for a beautiful rose in his lovely garden of love. God chose Ms. Josephine Garrett McDonald to join him in his divine home of paradise.

Josephine Garrett McDonald, born in Columbia, SC, was the first daughter of the proud parents Joseph and Ruth Taylor Garrett on December 10, 1944.

Ms. Josephine Garrett McDonald was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Church where she maintained her membership. She often worshiped, during her adulthood with Ladson Presbyterian Church.

Ms. Josephine Garrett McDonald was married to the late, Mr. PD McDonald and the two of them were blessed with three wonderful children, two sons and one daughter.

Josephine Garrett McDonald, Jo as she was so affectionately known by many who knew and loved her. Jo was educated in Richland School District One, a graduate of CA Johnson, Class of 62. She   matriculated to Benedict College and obtained her B.S. degree in Journalism from The University of South Carolina. Jo always had a passion for reading and writing. Her daughter, Victoria, (Vicki) recalls how her mom always provided educational books for her and her brothers to read.

Josephine’s employment career included an Educator in Richland School District One, The US Army Finance Department of Fort Jackson, and The US Post Office.

Josephine was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She loved playing Pinochle and Bridge with her sister and loving friends. She took abundant pride utilizing her green thumb skills with flowers and outside plants. Her favorite was Yellow Tulips. In addition, Jo took exceptional joy during her private quiet time solving crossword puzzles, especially the ones in the Sunday’s newspaper, as well as, listening to jazz, especially Spyro Gyra.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by one grandson, Malik Hosea Khalil Kluttz.

Gone, but never forgotten. Ms.  Josephine Garrett McDonald leaves to cherish her loving memories: two sons, Darryl Todd McDonald and Garrett Kevin (Linda) McDonald, Columbia, SC; one daughter, Victoria McDonald (Will) Griffin, Columbia, SC; loving and very supportive sister, Harriet Taylor Garrett, Irmo, SC; five granddaughters, LaKeisha Yvette McDonald, LaToya Shanel McDonald,  Jasmine Taylor McDonald and Kalyn Gabriel McDonald all from Columbia, SC; and Avis Shakira Mone Kluttz from California; five great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
