Ms. Johnnie Medlock Obituary

“Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…” Psalms 23:4

Johnnie Mae Medlock, affectionately known as Mae, or Mae Mae, was born December 20, 1954, in Elgin, South Carolina to the late Robert and Alberta Martin.  She departed this life on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at home in Columbia, South Carolina.

During her formative years, Mae attended Bethel Elementary School in Blythewood, South Carolina, and Fairworld Middle School in Columbia, South Carolina.  She graduated from Keenan High School, Class of 1973. Mae was employed with the Department of Mental Health as a dietician for over 20 years.

Mae was baptized at an early age and joined Good Aim Missionary Baptist Church in Elgin, South Carolina.  She served as an active member on both the Junior and Senior Usher Boards. Later, she joined the Blythewood Community Choir and enjoyed traveling and spreading God’s praise through songs. Mae was a very loving person. Many would describe her as fun-loving and humorous with a giving heart. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her because of her beautiful smile, her kind soul, and her endless faith in God. Mae treasured taking care of children and loved her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews dearly.  She was a second mother to not only her sister’s children, but also to Delano Manning, Madison Matthews, and Chad Dinkins. Mae was also an excellent cook, the best in the family!

In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Medlock; and brother, E. Michael Martin.

Mae leaves to mourn her passing a stepson, Seneca Samuel (Salisa) Medlock of Augusta, GA; three sisters, Roberta (Michael) Jacobs), Annie (Lee) Martin; Barbara Martin all of Columbia, SC; two nieces, Nikesha Deanne Jacobs of Columbia, SC and Tiffany S.
