Joanne Lucy Rowie, who was preceded by her loving Mother Lucille Smith and Father Joseph W. Stubbs, aged 73, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joanne was born on June 11, 1951, in Rochester, NY where she lived most of her life until moving to Columbia, South Carolina to live with her son and daughter-in-love. Her hope had been to help with the care of her newly expected grandson.
She began working with the Rochester City School in 1977 at the Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School No. 19. She worked in the kitchen and as a paraprofessional during her career. She ended her career working in PreK at John Williams School No. 5, where she was loved by students and staff alike. Additionally, she often worked as a home help aide, providing loving care to seniors.
Miss Cookie as she was called by those who knew her best loved cooking, eating out and watching Dallas Cowboys football with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Memorial AME Zion Church in Rochester NY, where she was an active member.
Joanne is survived by her loving son, Ward “Sonie” Wright, daughter-in-love, Kecia, her, grandchildren, Amiel, JuWuan, and Krystanie, great grandchildren, Amiel Jr., Keng, and Greyson, sisters Sandra and Beatrice, and a host of cousins and friends. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will be forever missed.
