Hortense E. Pinkney was born on September 7, 1925 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the first child born to William and Lillian Bugg. She departed this earthly journey on October 9, 2021 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Hortense accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She was a member of Greater Bethel AME Church.
Hortense was educated in the public schools of Nashville City and graduated from Pearl High School in 1944. She later moved to New York City in 1947 and worked as a housekeeper at the infamous hotel, The Knickerbocker. In her later years, Hortense became a Home Health Aid and retired from working in 1998. After retiring, she relocated to Columbia, South Carolina.
Horense was a mother to four children, Quinetta, Joseph, Jr., Rochelle and Tschaka. She cherished her children and always loved to interact with her family and closest friends. She loved people of all cultures and enjoyed traveling around the United States. She had a passion for government politics and delicious foods. Hortense never met a stranger and could engage anyone in conversation. When speaking with you, she always made you feel special and found a way to interject humor in all situations.
In addition to her parents, Hortense was preceded in death by her daughter, Rochelle; son, Tschaka; and sisters, Yonne Tucker and Claudette Bugg.
Hortense leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Quinetta Adderley; son, Joseph Adderly, Jr.; grandchildren, Avasheria Johnson, Nicole Adderley-Martin, Monica Adderley, and Charisma Adderley; great-grandchildren, Shermain Burchett, Jr., Chasity Boyd, Ashanti Carter, Tresor Heard, Jada Carter, Carter Tyson, and Cree Austin; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
