Ms. Gwendolyn Janette Daniels

Gwendolyn Janette Daniels was born on March 11, 1955 in Columbia, SC. She passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2024, at the Rapha Residential Care facility in Gaston, SC.

The only child of Ruth Weldon Daniels and the late James Daniels, Gwen attended Waverly Elementary School, Hand Middle School, and Dreher High School in Richland County. Following high school, she attended the University of South Carolina and was a graduate of Benedict College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Early in her career she taught at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School, served as a substitute teacher in Richland County School District One, and provided piano lessons for young children in the community. She was a gifted musician, known for her beautiful lyric soprano voice. She was the Sunday School pianist and a member of the G.J. Odom Singers at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a member since birth.

Most of her professional career was devoted to healthcare. She worked for 20+ years at Prisma Health Richland, formerly Richland Memorial Hospital, in various capacities. Most recently she served as a unit secretary at Prisma Health Richland, where she supported registered nurses, physicians, and hospital staff across emergency room and multiple patient care hospital units.

Gwen was a beloved daughter, niece, cousin, and friend. Gwen was the primary caretaker for her mother Ruth for many years and you would rarely see one without the other. She loved fishing at the family farm in Winnsboro and could often be found tending to flowers in her yard. She also loved her two “fur babies” Penny and Rusty. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her infectious smile, her unmistakable grace and poise, and her fierce and protective love for her family.

Gwen was preceded in death by her father James Daniels and leaves behind her mother Ruth Daniels, as well as her beloved aunts and uncle, a host of cousins, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
