Ms. Gwendolyn Brown Obituary

Mrs. Gwendolyn Veronica Brown was born on June 9, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Arthur Wayne and Louise Bennett. She peacefully transitioned on Friday, May 31, 2024 at her residence in Columbia, SC.

Gwendolyn, being a Brooklyn native, attended the Central Commercial High School. After completing grade school, she met and married the love of her life, Edward Lee Brown, Jr. They were wed on August 18, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York, and together they raised three amazing children; Gregory, Gary and Tiffany. Being married to a veteran, she supported the United States troops. Her support only grew fonder once her two sons decided to join and serve our great country.

Gwendolyn worked for the New York City Board of Education for over 10 years as an Assistant Educator and a Reading Paraprofessional. She was an avid cook and homemaker. Gwendolyn was also a very enthusiastic member of the Democratic Club in Brooklyn, NY and believed staunchly in voting rights for the black communities.

Family was important to Gwendolyn. In 2004, Gwendolyn and her husband Edward migrated down south to be closer to her son Gary. Once relocated, she devoted her time to and resources to caring for her daughter, Tiffany, and supporting others with autism.

In addition to her parents, Arthur and Louise Bennett, Gwendolyn is also predeceased by her husband, Edward Lee Brown, Jr.; her sister, Delores Dukes; and brother Leroy Grant.

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish fond memories with; her children, Gregory (Angela) Brown, Gary Brown (Ivete), and Tiffany Brown; a sister, Rosemary Bennett; a brother, Wayne Bennett; five grandchildren, Allen Nunez, Jamila Brown, Gavin Brown, Gabrielle Brown and Grant Brown; four great-grandchildren, Graham Brown, Gavin Brown Jr., Kayden Brown, ad Emmarie Brown; a devoted and loving caregiver, Angela Redden; and a host of other loving relatives and devoted friends who will all miss her immensely.
