Ms. Fatima Horne Obituary

Fatima MiCha Horne, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 50, on May 5, 2025 at Prisma Health Richland, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Born on February 11, 1975 in Columbia, SC to Dorothy Rainey Cooke and the late James Veal, Fatima was educated in Richland School District One.  Upon graduation, she entered Beta Technical and received the degree in Medical Assistant.  She was an active member of Bishop Memorial AME Church, serving as President of the Young People Department (YPD), and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She later joined Journey United Methodist Church where she served as Director of the Church Nursery.

Fatima continued her education and obtained certificates in Internet Technical Support, CPR, CNA and Child Development Associate (CDA).  Although Fatima worked in various capacities, none were more endearing than working with children. She was employed by The Sunshine House of Columbia, South Carolina. Little did she know that God was preparing her to serve as Director of the Nursery Department at Journey United Methodist Church for ten plus years. Her compassion, devotion and love for children allowed her to work with children of various backgrounds. Children migrated to Fatima because they could feel the love and warmth of her presence. This may have been her destiny.

Fatima lived a life full of compassion, creativity, strength, and grace. She was the heart of her family, always ready with a listening ear, a kid on her lap, a joke to tell, or her homemade macaroni. Fatima loved to perform community service (i.e. Helping Hands of Columbia, Feeding the Homeless, and Richland One School District). Fatima was a life member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 4262, Columbia, South Carolina.

To know Fatima is to truly love her. She treated everyone who she encountered like family. She would take in any child at any moment. Fatima was the life of the party. She loved dancing and playing games. You could catch her on Sundays watching football with her boys (cheering on her Dallas Cowboys) or any other day on video chats with her daughter. And of course she can always be found with her sweet emotional support baby/granddaughter, Kori. Fatima loved spending time with her best friends Tammara Duck & her close cousins Kimberly Jones and DeAundra Glover. Of course, she enjoyed spending time with her Mom and Auntie Margie whether shopping, watching a movie, or doing arts and crafts or just talking.  They were inseparable.

Fatima is survived by her mother Dorothy (Dena), her daughter Ke'Aundra Jones, her sons, VaShaun & Jaden Horne, her granddaughter Kori Jones-Suber; brothers Gamal Horne of Columbia SC, James (Erica) Veal, Keith Veal both of Charlotte NC, brother cousin Mao Rainey, Columbia SC; sisters Yolanda Veal, Annette (Warren) Halter, Shanna (Edward) Perry, all of Columbia SC, sister cousins, DeAundra Glover, Waxhaw NC, and Marquita Hunter, Columbia SC; God sister Tammara Duck, Columbia, SC;  aunts Lucretia Alston of Glen Cove NY, Marjorie Rainey of Columbia SC. Joyce (Johnnie) Koon of Waxhaw NC, Verna (Hursel) Forbes of Winnsboro SC and Indira (Jeffery) Cloyd of Stafford VA; devoted friends Cheryl Singleton, Arletha Rice and her bestie Keisha Anderson and a host of family and friends who will carry forward her legacy of love, generosity and quiet strength.
