Dorothy Mae Burgess, daughter of the late Sammie Nixon, Sr. and Gennie V. Williams Nixon, was born on August 12, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Richland County and completed her studies at Booker T. Washington High School in 1961.
At an early age, Dorothy was baptized at Friendship A.M.E. Church in Columbia, South Carolina where she served faithfully until the decline of her health.
Dorothy was employed as a housekeeper for the Powell Family and later retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, loved ones, and community. She had a way of bringing life into a room by spreading cheer and laughter. She was known for being a peacemaker.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Burgess, Jr; son, Duane Williams; two siblings, Sammie Nixon, Jr., and Joyce Nixon Williams.
Dorothy leaves her precious memories, her loving children, Carl (Sharon) Donaldson III, Jody Donaldson, Morris Burgess, Andre (Jennifer) Burgess and Andrea Burgess, all of Columbia, South Carolina; loving sisters, Alberta Perry, Cynthia Corbitt, Shirley (Walter); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.
