Miss Dorothy M. Brown, daughter of the late William Brown and Frances Washington McCray Brown, was born August 06, 1944, in Alcolu, South Carolina.
On February 05, 2021 passed away peacefully at home in the presence of daughter and daughter-in-law. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Violet Hutchinson, Elizabeth James, Deloris Daney; brothers, Centry McCray, Alonzo McCray, Felix and Eddie McCray.
Dorothy received her education in the public school system of Clarendon County, South Carolina. At an early age, she joined and was baptized at Green Hill Baptist Church, Alcolu, South Carolina. She song on the Green Hill Mass Choir, and she also participated in the kitchen ministry.
Dorothy, as a young adult move to Chicago, Illinois with her oldest sister, Violet Hutchinson and further her education as a Certified Medical Transporter for Cook County Hospital, she continue pursuit as a Licensed Cosmetologist and work part-time as a licensed CNA. She on from there to become a Licensed Phlebotomy & Certified EKG Technician she retired in 2007 and became the loving grandmother three grand kids that lived in Chicago, Illinois.
In January 2013 she decided to leave the windy city behind to reside with her daughter in Columbia, South Carolina and was a participant at the Palmetto Senior Daycare where she was known as “Momma Lucy”, also known as the “Hat Lady”.
Miss Dorothy was loving, kind, hardworking, trustworthy and peaceful person. She loved her family and was kindhearted friend to everyone she met.
Those left to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Benita (Mary) Mathis of the home, a son, Jermaine Daney of Chicago, IL and a daughter-in-law, Nikki; a sister, Roberta (Sam) Gigger of Chicago, IL; and a sister-in-law, Ora McCray of New York; grandchildren, Reginald, John Damiko, Jaiiko, and Ja; three step grands, Joseph, Brandon, and Demetrius; great-grand, Jai’La of the home and Aamir; four step grands; three step grands; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
