Cheryl Elaine King was born on October 28, 1978, at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina to Arthur and Gladys Tillman King. She was the eldest of three children. She was called home from labor to eternal rest by our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 21, 2022.
Cheryl was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ at a very early age. She was a member of Greenview First Baptist Church.
Cheryl began her education at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School and continued her primary education in the public schools of Richland County. She was a proud graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1996. Upon graduation, she continued her secondary education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and eventually graduated from Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Magna Cum Laude in May 2004. Cheryl was a member of The Order of the Purple Seal (The Scholastic Society of Columbia College), and a member of the Alpha Sigma Gamma Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda (National Honor Society).
Cheryl, affectionately known as “Sherrie”, was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Her specialties were desserts and various ethnic dishes. She enjoyed adorning her classic chef’s jacket and hat and her family referred to her as the “Queen Chef”. She loved all genres of music, especially jazz, and she enjoyed classic movies. She was a very organized person and paid strict attention to detail. Cheryl was a loving, caring and kind person. As she went through life her faith was strengthened. She routinely read her bible and daily devotionals. She was known for her pretty dimples and infectious smile.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Tillman King.
Cheryl leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories her father, Arthur Bruce King; two sisters, Jennifer King and Amanda King, both of Columbia, SC; seven aunts, Muriel King of Philadelphia, PA, Lili Scott, Lafern Tillman, Betty Tillman, and Sivillia (Benjamin) Jackson all of Columbia, SC, Ann Harrington of Plano TX, and Peggy (Harry) Murray of Victorville, CA; and two uncles, Manson (Deborah) Tillman of Manassas, VA and Joseph (Erma) Hayes of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
