Ms. Carrie Simpson Obituary

Carrie Simpson was born October 20, 1932, to the late Pearson and Hettie Garret Kelly. On Friday, May 7, 2021, she separated this earthly life after a brief illness.

She graduated from Zion Hill High School in 1950 and married her beloved Leroy Simpson on December 4, 1950.  She enjoyed careers at Allied Chemical, Townsend Saw Chain Company, and Colonial Life Insurance Company.

Carrie was a loving mother who devoted her life to her family. After marrying Leroy Simpson, she spent her early years traveling with him and their children during the change of assignments in the United States and abroad at military installations overseas. Columbia, SC ultimately became their place of permanent residency.

She was affectionately known as Mom, Granny, Aunt Carrie, Mom Carrie, and CK. From the early ’70s until her time of passing, Carrie established roots and connectivity with many people. All of whom she helped, counseled, supported, loved, and often welcomed into her home. Carrie was a phenomenal cook and had multiple specialties that family and friends have come to enjoy over the years. In her spare time, which rarely existed for a mother of eight children, she enjoyed sewing and socializing with extended family members, friends, and those she unofficially adopted.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age while in her hometown of Jonesville, SC. She was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and member of the Usher Board.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Simpson; six brothers, Henry “Sonny” Kelly, Robert “Bob” Kelly, Clifford Kelly, Jethro Kelly, William Kelly, and Charles Kelly; six sisters, Dolly Farr, Pearl Gee, Senola “OD” Fernandez, Jessie Garrett, Minnie Martin, and Josie Reid; one son, Geoffrey “Bobby” Simpson; and one great-great-grandson, Karlton “KJ” Brabham.

Carrie leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her devoted children Selma E Jackson of Elgin, SC, Marie (Richard Lucas) Simpson of Columbia, SC, Kenneth (Yolonda) Simpson of Georgia, Gail Simpson of Columbia, SC, Cynthia Simpson of Phenix City, AL, Gene (Tracey) Simpson of Suffolk, VA, and Charles (Jan) Simpson of Matthews, NC; one sister, Ruby Hudson of Washington, DC; four sisters-in-law, Joyce Simpson of Spartanburg, SC, Olivia Lewis of Cowpens, SC, Viola Kelly of Pacolet, SC, and Gracie Foxhall of Cleveland, OH; one godson, Henry Byrd of Sandford, FL; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family, in-laws, and friends all who will miss her dearly.
