Ms. Carrie Mae English Reese was born to the late Louise English and Nathan Williams in Sumter, South Carolina August 2, 1937. She was later raised by her aunt, Ms. Essie B. English, who also preceded her in death, along with all of her siblings. She departed this life to be with the Lord on May 30, 2022 at her residence in Columbia, South Carolina.
“Carrie Mae,” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Richland County and was a 1955 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School. She enjoyed performing as one of C.A. Johnson’s majorettes.
Ms. Carrie was a faithful and dedicated member of Ladson Presbyterian Church for over 70 years and was selected as Women of the Year. She served as head usher, served on the deacon board, member of the choir, member of the Women’s ministry as well as the United Presbyterian Women’s Association.
Ms. Carrie’s passion was working with the Greenview Community where she lived for over 60 years. She served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts of Greenview Baptist Church, volunteer classroom assistant and “school grandma” at Greenview Elementary, volunteer at the South Carolina State Museum and an Election Poll Worker for many years.
Carrie Mae leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, Charles Reese, Jr., Curtis Reese, Carroll (Tomothy) Edmond, Chrisandra (Douglas) Hayes, Charleen (Dominique) Blasingame; her grandchildren, Tacara, DeQuita “Dee-Dee”, Turquoise (Cory), Krystal, Dominique, Chuckie, Chelsey, Navi; her great-grands, Lindan, Corron, Khairo, Brianna, King, Charae, Kyzer, Zhaire; beloved nephew, Willie Cantey; four friends who were like sisters, Yvonne Red Martin, Mary Harmon Rearden, Jessie Mae Goodwin Seals, and Iceletta Roundtree Jenkins; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
