Willie Evelyn Carter Bonnette, affectionately known as “Edna”, was born on November 20, 1942 to the late Wilbur and Agnes Carter in Barnwell, South Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2025.
Edna was educated in the public schools of Cayce, South Carolina and attended Lakeview High School.
Edna met the love of her life, Macon Bonnette, Sr., and was a loving and devoted wife for 61 years. She was also a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Edna worked as a tailor for 20 years with Lourie’s Fine Clothing Store, and later for JC Penney. She retired from Fort Jackson Army Base as a clothes fitter.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Macon; son, Gregory Anthony; two brothers, Joe Louis and James David Carter; and sister, Daisy Hallman.
Edna leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Yolanda Bonnette of Columbia, SC; two sons, Macon Bonnette, Jr. and Dennis Bonnette both of Columbia, SC; three grandsons, Kenneth (Shailia) Burton II of Atlanta, GA, Kristopher (Lorraine) Burton of Aiken, SC, and Juan Ward of Columbia, SC; three granddaughters, LaKeyta Bonnette of Atlanta, GA, Octavia Bonnette-Thompson, and Tiffany (Terrence) Wallington bother of Columbia, SC; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Johnson of Charlotte, NC and Sylvia Huguenin of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Clarence (Lillian) Bonnette of Orangeburg, SC; a special great-niece, Chelsea Hall of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
