Wanda Lee Long Pickett, also known as “Cookie”, was born on January 28, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late William Lee Long Sr. and Daisy Mae Long. She passed into eternal life on June 23, 2020.
Wanda was educated in the public schools of Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Male High School Class of 1967. During high school, she participated in Girls Track and Field’65-’67 and played the clarinet in the marching band. Wanda obtained an Associates in Medical Technology in Alaska.
At an early age she was sprinkled at Hope Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. In adulthood, she gave her life to the Lord and was baptized at Greater Saint Luke Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Years later she joined Right Direction Church International where she was a devoted member. She was an active member serving as a RDCI Board Member, Altar Worker, Trustee Board Member, and in the Prayer Room Ministry.
Wanda was employed as a Lab Technician for 32 years at the Moncrief Army Hospital located on Fort Jackson.
Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and traveling. Also, she was an avid bowler where she played on several all-star teams and was one of the top bowlers in the region.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, William and Daisy Long; and sister, Yvonne Cavitt.
Wanda leaves her extremely devoted and loving husband, Bernard Eugene Pickett, Sr.; two sons, Bernard Eugene (Kathlene) Pickett, Jr. and Tyrin Dewayne (Jessica) Pickett, all of Columbia, SC; adopted children, Dwayne (LaKesha) Hammond, Ken (LaTasha) Guider, and Kayla Guider; six grandchildren, Jasmin Alea, Emma Lee, Alea Irie, Madison Seoul, Reese McKenzie, and Braedyn Quin; two sisters, Phyllis Jean (John) Murphy and JoAnn (Eddie, Sr.) Hardimon; four brothers, William Lee (Linda) Long, Jr., Allen Dale Long, Larry Lee (Mary) Long, and Jerry Lee (Wanda) Long, Sr.; one sister-in-law, Beverly Ubani; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousin, relatives, and friends.
