Shirley Ann Nixon Foust, daughter of the late Sammie Nixon, Sr. and Geneveve Williams Nixon, was born on October 20, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Shirley was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1971.
One year after graduation, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Walter Foust. They remained in marital bliss for 52 years until she departed.
Shirley was employed by General Electric where she retired after 32 years of dedicated service. She dedicated her life to her family, loved ones, and community. She had a way of bringing life into a room by spreading cheer, laughter, and good food. Shirley was known for being a peacemaker and putting others before herself. After retiring, Shirley chose to become a caregiver for others. Those she cared for, William Carey Cooper, George Walker “Jack” Inabinet and Helen Inabinet, truly became her family.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Tory Foust; grandson, Xavier Foust; and six siblings, Carolyn Nixon, Sammie Nixon, Jr., Joyce Nixon Williams, Dorothy Nixon Burgess, Alberta Nixon Perry, and Cynthia Nixon Corbitt.
Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband, Walter Foust of Pelion, SC; loving children, Colby Eugene Foust and Ashley Victoria Foust of Pelion, SC; granddaughter, Brandie Foust of Baltimore, MD; special niece and nephew, Latonea Harris and Morris “Pookie” Burgess; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
