Mrs. Shirley Vanessa Milhouse

Shirley Vanessa Montgomery Milhouse was born on July 17, 1967 in Columbia, South Carolina to Mrs. Evelyn Reese Montgomery and the late Henry Burgess Montgomery. She departed this life on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Shirley, affectionately known as “Shirley Bird”, was educated in the public schools of Richland County School District One and was a 1985 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School. She earned an Associate degree from Midlands Technical College. She was employed by First Union Bank and later Wachovia Bank.

Shirley was united in Holy Matrimony to Roy Robert Milhouse on April 19, 1997. They were blessed to share more than 22 years of love. Their union was blessed with one stepson, and the birth of one son and one daughter.

Shirley dedicated her life to her family and church. She was a devoted member of Stover A.M.E. Church and Friendship A.M.E. Church. She was elected as President of the Women’s Missionary Society in 2012 and named Mother of the Year in 2015 at Friendship. In 2014, She was named a Columbia Area Women’s Missionary Society Torch Lighter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Henry Burgess Montgomery; and father-in-law, Willie James Tucker.

Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving husband of 22 years, Roy Robert Milhouse of Columbia, SC; her beloved children, Rodregus Davis of Central, SC, Andrew Milhouse of West Columbia, SC, and Kamil Milhouse of West Columbia, SC; one grandson, Jarrod Davis of Easley, SC; her mother, Evelyn Reese Montgomery of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Irvine E. Richardson and Leon S. Montgomery both of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Evon (Alfonso) Whitt, Gloria (Michael) Addison, and Jennifer M. Williams all of Columbia, SC; mother-in-law, Clary Ann Tucker of Columbia, SC; father-in-law, Christian Milhouse, Sr. of Columbia, SC; three brothers-in-law, Christian Milhouse, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Dennis Milhouse of Columbia, SC and Willie James (Diane) Tucker, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; four sisters-in-law, Laydean Hayes, Carrie Bull, Mary Milhouse and Sandra Tucker all of Columbia, SC; special friends, Mary McCants and Rev. Edward L. (Alice) Hill, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving family and friends who will all miss her dearly.
