Sherian Shyann Coley Hunter passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 3, 2020.
Born on September 24, 1956 in Thomasville, Georgia, she was the firstborn of the late Eddie Mae Coley (Heyward Curry) and the late Reverend O.C. Williams. After graduating from Thomasville High School, she moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she met and married Perry Hunter, a Sergeant in the US Air Force. Together they raised three children: Andre Maurice, Toni Shonte, and Brittney Mary Alice.
A true military family, they lived abroad for three years with Perry stationed in Kerpen, Germany from 1989-1992. During their time abroad they traveled all over Europe with Sherian also traveling to the former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.
Stateside, Sherian worked for more than 10 years at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health where she met special friends, Denise Wilson and Jamison with whom she would remain close with until her passing. After leaving the state hospital, she spent years working as a manager in retail before retiring from the workforce in 1997.
Sherian was full of life and she relished fun times with family, friends, and her children. She enjoyed shopping for her kids and spoiling her grandchildren with sweet treats and birthday money for each year of life.
In September 2006, she suffered a major stroke which would render her wheel-chair bound for the next 13 years. She was very symbolic and often told you she did everything in 3’s since she had three children. If you bought her ice cream, she asked that you buy 3. Her affinity for the number 3 even passed on to her children, with Andre and Brittney both having 3 children as well.
On Sunday, May 3rd she danced to her resting place in the sweet by and by. Not one to be outdone even by death, Mrs. Sherian Hunter departed this life on the 3rd day of the month with 3 letters: May.
Sherian leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her husband Perry Hunter; one son, Andre (LaTasha)Hunter; two daughters, Shonte (Brandon) Evans and Brittney Hunter; one step-daughter, Michelle (Oscar) Renwrick; three brothers, Todd (Catherine) Coley of Wichita, KS, Jeffery Curry of Columbia, SC, and Todd (DeeDee) Williams of Valdosta, GA; three sisters, Rosalind Davis (Betty Nathan) of Gaston, SC; Jennifer Davis of Columbia, SC, and Stephanie LeBray (the late Herman) of Columbia, SC; twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
