Sara Dianne Solomon, affectionately known as Dianne, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 6, 2024. Born on January 7, 1954, in Camden, South Carolina, to Willie Reed Jr. and Rebecca Reed, Dianne lived a life filled with love, joy, and a servant's heart.
A graduate of Camden High School in 1972, Dianne married the love of her life, Melvin Solomon, in 1980. Together, they welcomed their son, Marquis, in 1981, who became her greatest pride and joy, along with her beloved granddaughter, Alana.
Dianne began her career working in the manufacturing and hospitality industries but found her true calling as a Mental Health Specialist at Bryan Psychiatric Hospital under the South Carolina Department of Mental Health where she worked with dedication until her retirement in 2002.
Known as the woman who could get things done, Dianne had a gift for bringing people together. Her infectious personality made her the life of the party, and she was often regarded as everyone’s big sister, daughter, and friend. Her loving spirit and outgoing nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was also a devoted fan of South Carolina Women’s Basketball, and her love for music and dancing was ever-present.
Though Dianne spent the last 22 years of her life in a wheelchair, she was a model of independence and resilience. She was fondly nicknamed "Speed Racer" at Avalon Place Senior Living, where she could often be seen zipping around in her signature red motorized scooter. Her joy for life never dimmed, and her love for her family and friends remained her guiding light.
Dianne was preceded in death by her father, Willie Reed Jr.; brothers, Willie “Cat” Reed III, Ronnie Reed, and Larry Reed; and sister, Patricia Reed; brother-in-law, Kenneth Solomon, Sr. and Hector “Naya” Pabon; and sister-in-law, Sheila Solomon.
Dianne is survived by her husband, Melvin Solomon; her loving son, Marquis Solomon; granddaughter, Alana Armstrong-Solomon; cherished mother, Rebecca B. Reed; sister, Barbara Reed; brother, Melvin (Magnolia) Reed; and in-laws, Rosalind Solomon, Missietra “Missy” Fludd, Cynthia “Elaine” Pabon, Julia “Helene” (Willie) Terry, and Peter (Dawn) Solomon; special daughters, Erica Norman and LaTasha Nickerson of Forest Acres Post Acute; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly. Dianne’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She touched many lives, and her memory will be cherished forever.
