Mrs. Rita Lynn Childress

Rita Lynn Childress was born July 31, 1955 to the late Mary Frances Rhodes Childress and the late Tommy Tellis Childress in Morganton, North Carolina. She gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Rita graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island. She spent a year at Boston University and graduated with a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Rita was employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield as Computer Programmer, where she later retired.  

Rita was known by many as a kindhearted and generous person. She loved her son dearly and mentored many of her coworkers.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy; and nephew, Virgil.

Rita survived by her husband, Bill Tumbleston; son Danny Tumbleston; one sister, Brenda Ralph; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
