Mrs. Monica S. Johnson

Mrs. Monica S. Griffin Johnson was born on January 19, 1970, in Queens, New York. She was
the beloved daughter of the late Willie Griffin, Jr. and Frances Smith Johnson. Monica departed
her fabulous life to be with the Lord on May 6, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center.
Monica graduated from Plainfield High School in 1988 in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was an
amazing CNA and nurse technician at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina.
In 2014, she started attending Harvest Outreach Center Church, where the pastor is Pastor Alecia
Weeks-Garrick. She served in every single area of the church with open arms and a smile. In the
same year, she rededicated her life to Christ at Kingdom Harvest Church.
Besides giving her services to the church, she loved to serve others through her cooking. It was
full of love, and it made you feel connected to her. She always had an open-door policy to come
grab a plate. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with family. She loved being a
wife, mother, grandmother, and a church member. She had a beautiful voice, and she was full of
advice. Her laugh would always light up the room. She was full of love but very stern. Despite
going through her own battles, she always kept a positive attitude and a smile. She put her trust
in the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Monica was preceded in death by her daughter, Nicole, grandmother
Doreatha Smith and Alma Smith, grandfathers, Willie Griffin, Sr. and Charlie Smith.
Monica Johnson leaves to cherish fond memories with her loving and devoted husband, Dwayne
Montgomery; two handsome sons, Nathaniel L. Johnson, II and Nicholas Johnson. Three sisters,
Sonya Beal, Tonya Robertson and Stacy (Nicholus) Swain-Chin; one brother, Willie Griffin, III;
two beautiful grandchildren, Zion Johnson and Braelynn Johnson; a host nieces and nephews,
cousins and friends that will truly miss her.
