Mrs. Maude Christopher Obituary

Maude Hopkins Christopher was born on January 28, 1931 to the late Freddie Hopkins and Jannie Sumpter. She was called home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

At an early age, Maude dedicated her life to Christ and was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Hopkins, South Carolina. In her later years she became an active member of First Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. There she reached an important milestone in her faith journey receiving recognition for over 50 years of service under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Blakely N. Scott.

Maude attended the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School. She worked as a governess for over 15 years and worked as a secretary for Hop’s TV and Appliance Store in Columbia. Maude was a member of the Lucky Ladies Club, The Lunch Bunch, The Pokeno Club, and she also served as the president of the Prescott Terrace Community for over 20 years.

Maude was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt who took great pride in serving and supporting her family. As the matriarch of the family, Maude was known for her personality and her candidness. She was also known for guiding the children under her wings to accept Christ as their savior and to have personal relationships with the Lord.

In addition to her parents, Maude was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Roland Christopher; siblings, James Hopkins, Walter Hopkins, and Marie Jane Robinson; and grandmother, Sally Benson.

Maude leaves to cherish her legacy her devoted children, Patricia (George) Solone of Columbia, SC and Jinkin (Yvonne) Hopkins, Sr. of Macon, GA; nine grandchildren, Jinkin Hopkins, Jr. and Amanda (James) Gethers both of Columbia, SC, Torrance Hopkins of Charlotte, NC, Benjamin (Michele) Hopkins, Brian Hopkins, Kimberly (Patrick) Moreland, Shaynise (Sharoderick) Robinson, and Jeffrey Sallette, Jr. all of GA, and Dominique (Marsalis) McCloud of Charleston, SC; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Hopkins of Atlanta, GA; five nieces, Portia (Jimmy) Holiday of Fayetteville, GA, Varria Robinson, Cynthia Bell, Nevada (Joseph) Bracey all of Columbia, SC, and Collette (Trevor) Hopkins-Turner of Atlanta, GA; four nephews, Jimmy (Gwen) Taylor and Jerome (Florestine) Robinson both of Columbia, SC, Maurice Robinson of Jacksonville, FL, and Carey (Ruby) Hopkins of Columbia, SC; and a host of loving cousins, relatives and friends.
