Mother Linda R. Nelson Johnson was born on March 7, 1949, in Columbia, South
Carolina to the late Mr. Grover and Mrs. Dorothy Kennedy-Nelson. She transitioned into
eternal rest on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital.
Mother Johnson attended the public schools of Richland County and Job Corp and was
a graduate of Eau Claire High School. She was employed with Midland Center for over
30 years.
Early in her life, she joined Faith Tabernacle Way of the Cross Church where she was
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and was filled with the Holy Ghost. She served in
several areas in the ministry including serving as choir president, Sunday school
teacher, usher, missionary, willing workers department and with the culinary team.
Mother Johnson was a wonderful and loving wife, an amazing mother to her children,
and a doting grandmother to each of her grandchildren. While she was the disciplinarian
for all the children in the family and children in the neighborhood, all her nieces,
nephews and neighboring children loved her even after every scolding and spanking.
Her sweet spirit and beautiful smile were the magnet for so many wonderful
relationships and friendships that were established with her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by in death by her daughter, Hope
Johnson and sister, Ernestine Holmes.
Mother Johson leaves to cherish her sweet and precious memories to her husband,
Willie Johnson; one daughter, Doris Caldwell; two sons, Willie Ronnell, and Derrick
Johnson; one grandson reared in the home, Devon Johnson; 4 sisters, Brenda (Roger,
Sr.) Brasley, Bonita (O'Dell) Oneal, all of Columbia, SC; Janice Burton, of Fort Mill, SC
and Beatrice Nelson, of Columbia, SC; 2 brothers, Grover, Jr.(Almenia) of Sacramento,
CA, and Robert Nelson of Columbia, SC; 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Morant and Mary
(Archie) Washington; one goddaughter, Jade French; 12 grandchildren, a host of nieces
and nephews; best friend, Mary Roach; and many other relatives and friends all of
whom will deeply miss her.
