Janie Mae Williams was born on August 29, 1930, in Camden, South Carolina to the late Eugene and Nealie Wheeler. Janie was called home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2022.
Janie was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County and was a graduate of Jackson High School Class of 1947. Janie relocated to Brooklyn, New York in the early 1950’s where she met and married the love of her life, Jim Williams. Together they raised their five children in Brooklyn and Queens. After a twenty-three year career at ConEdison Company NY, Janie retired. Janie relocated to the Carolinas 2019.
Janie loved the Lord. Janie was a long-standing member of Vital Church NYC, formerly known as her beloved Rose of Sharon Baptist Church located in Queens, New York. She was under the leadership of Bishop Martin K. Watson and Pastor Gail Watson. Janie served as a Deaconess for many years and was active in several auxiliaries.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Nealie Wheeler; her husband, Jim Williams; two sisters, Bennie Mae Johnson and Naomi Drakeford; and her son, Harold Williams.
Janie leaves to cherish memories two sons, Gus Haynesworth and Daryl Williams; two daughters, Denise Williams and Linda Singletary; one sister, Pearl Bennett; two brothers, Johnny Jones and James Jones; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Williams and Audrey Williams; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
