Iona B. Williams of 226 Sunnydale Drive, affectionately known as “Knute” was born on May 27, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Fred and Wilma Brown. During her early childhood, she was reared by her grandparents, Lovetta and Samuel Padget. Following a brief illness at Spaulding Regional Hospital, she departed this earthly life on Monday, January 11, 2021, in the company of her loving family.
Iona was married to the late Bobby “Piza” Williams for 46 years; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took great pride in serving and supporting her family. As the Matriarch, Iona was known for her candidness, and most importantly, guiding the children under her wings to establishing a personal relationship with the Lord.
Iona dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. In 2013, she reached an important milestone in her faith journey and received recognition for 50 years of membership at First Nazareth Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Blakely N. Scott, whom she admired and respected to the utmost. A statuesque woman who stood out among the congregation during church services, Iona was known for her vibrant praise and worship.
Iona attended the public schools in Richland County, including Booker T. Washington High School, maintaining endearing relationships with her classmates throughout six decades. Her outgoing personality and colorful sense of humor evoked lots of laughs and captivated people who were in her presence.
Iona began an early career at Baptist Hospital, working in the role of a Sterile Preparation Technician. After thirty years of dedicated service, she proudly retired.
