Mrs. Hortense Thomas Craft was born on February 23, 1928 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Henry C. Thomas and Cynthia P. Thomas. On Sunday, July 5, 2020, surrounded by her children, Mrs. Craft quietly transition from this life to her heavenly home.
Mrs. Craft received her early education in the Richland County Public Schools where she attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Mrs. Craft continued her education at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina.
At an early age, Mrs. Craft joined First Calvary Baptist Church and continued to serve faithfully until her health no longer allowed.
Mrs. Craft devoted her life to homemaking and caring for her family as well as private childcare for many years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Craft was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert M. Craft, Sr.; one daughter, Angela V. Craft; four brothers, Charles H. Thomas, John L. Thomas, Eugene L. Thomas, and Roland L. Thomas; and three sisters, Elizabeth Sewell, Rosa Dorsey, and Susie Williams.
Mrs. Craft leaves to cherish precious memories one son, Robert M. “Bobby” Craft, Jr.; three daughters, Veronica (David) Cohens, Gail R. Craft, and Yolanda (Broderick) Hiller; three grandchildren, Shomarick Hiller, Erica (Kareem) Mitchell, R. Sherrod Craft; four great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Amaya, Maddux, and Kadence; one sister-in-law, Annie Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews, other, relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
