Georgia Mae Peterson was born September 11, 1933, in Richland County, South Carolina to the
late Frances James. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Prisma Hospital
in Columbia, South Carolina at the age of 91.
Georgia was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud graduate of
Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1952. She went on to become a cosmetologist and
later in 1973 she began her career with the Department of Mental Health at C. M. Tucker
Nursing Care Center where she remained until her retirement.
Georgia was united in holy matrimony to James Clinton Peterson and from their union one son
was born, Earl Stanley Peterson.
Georgia was a loving and caring person. She was instrumental in the rearing of three generations
of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She had an immense love for her family
and was always available to help whenever she was needed. Georgia also loved to cook, you
could stop by her house any day and she would have a full meal prepared to offer you. She was
know for her barbeque turkey wings and her grits and eggs. In her free time, Georgia loved doing
crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sewing, quilt making and thrifting.
In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, James Clinton
Peterson; son, Earl Stanley Peterson; sister, Ophelia Young; and brother, Luke Fuller.
Those left to cherish her fond and precious memories are her two grandsons, DeErron Peterson
of Fayetteville, NC and Malcolm (Tori) Peterson of Columbia, SC; four great-grandchildren,
Myia, Dominic, Sanaha, and Myles Peterson all of Columbia, SC; three great-great-
grandchildren, Anayia, Asia, and Aria Peterson all of Columbia, SC; daughter-in-law, Minnie
Peterson of Columbia, SC; three nephews, Herbert T. (Angie) Young of Rocky Mount, NC,
Elder James A. (Alicia) Young of Columbia, SC, and Elder Tremayne V. Young of Atlanta, GA;
one niece, LaVerne Y. Smith of Greenville, SC; life-long friend, Flossie Neil of Peabody, MA;
and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
