Gail Yvonne Gordon Harrell was born on September 3, 1956 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Floyd Gordon, Sr. and Dorothy McQuiller Gordon. She crossed the river to join our Heavenly Father on August 8, 2024.
Gail was educated in the schools of Richland District One (Carver Elementary, Keenan Junior High and CA Johnson High School). She continued her education at Columbia College earning a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education.
On a fateful day in September 1978, Gail started dating the love of her life. On September 26, 1981, Clarence Eugene Harrell III and Gail Yvonne Gordon entered a union ordained by God. That union produced years of love, happiness, laughter and their treasured daughter, Ashley Marie Harrell.
Gail had a servants heart as evident in her employment, community and religious affiliations. Her professional positions included Teacher, Child Care Manager, Parent Coordinator and Center Director. In the community, she was involved in activities promoting the well-being of others, often taking on the role of caregiver to those who needed one. Her social organizations included Avante Guarde, Culturettes and the Federated Girls Club. Gail was a lifetime member of and provided immeasurable service to New Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a teacher in Children’s Church and Vacation Bible School. She assisted with the Kitchen Ministry cooking soul food and baking her beloved pound cakes. She was a member of the choir, Women’s Prayer Group, and supported the Elderly Ministry. She was the Chairperson of the Women’s Day Planning Committee on multiple occasions. Most recently, Gail played an intricate part in writing a grant for the daycare to ensure the children and staff had the materials they needed to be successful and served as a board member, using her knowledge of early childcare to create a safe loving environment for staff and students.
Gail was known to be a mentor, motivator, confidant and source of compassion to all she encountered. Her gentle and nurturing spirit will be immensely missed by all.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Gordon, Sr. and her husband, Clarence E. Harrell III. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ashley M. Harrell; two cherished granddaughters, Kymari I. Barham and Kaidyn L. Barham; one bonus granddaughter, Alana N. Harris; her doting mother, Dorothy M. Gordon; two cherished siblings, Floyd (Gloria) Gordon II and Mary Ellen (Freddie) Brandyburg; two supportive aunts, Delores Gordon and Betty Horton; two sisters-in-love, Evelyn Moore and Harriett (Frankie) Roach; one brother-in-love Caesar (Cheryl) Leysath; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
