Delvin Shaunte’ Barber Chavis, affectionately known as “Debbie”, was born on February 20, 1978, to Annie Mae Barber and the late William Davis. She gained her heavenly wings on October 10, 2024, at the youthful age of forty-six.
Debbie was an exceptional person who excelled in everything that she did. She graduated a year early in 1995 from Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, South Carolina. She would later go on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She then went a step further and graduated from Troy University with a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in human resource management. She was on-track to finish her nursing degree and she was only a few weeks away from taking the real estate exam to become a realtor. Debbie worked as a Tax Examiner for the South Carolina Department of Revenue, and then opened her own business, DNA Business Ventures.
Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Andrew A. Chavis, on March 08, 1996. They were blessed with five children, Andrew, Alyshia, Dreanna, Devin, and Deviya. Debbie was a wonderful mother who inspired and motivated her family to strive for the best. She was a loving and caring person who worked hard for everyone, people and pets included. She worked as a bird rescuer and she personally cared for twelve parrots, four dogs, and a cat. She was a smart, diligent, loving person who touched each and every person she ever met. She was a bright light that will never dim, and we all are at a loss. But through the power of God, we will live on and work hard to honor her life and legacy.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Andrew of the home; five children, Andrew (Amber) Chavis of Houston, TX, Alyshia Chavis of Columbia, SC, Dreanna Chavis of West Columbia, SC, Devin Chavis of Rock Hill, SC, and Deviya Maddie Chavis of West Columbia, SC; mother, Annie M.
