Mrs. Ashley McCormick-Guess Obituary

A Time to Be Born

Ashley Dante’ McCormick-Guess was born on January 28, 1987, in Columbia, South Carolina to Cornell

McCormick and Carole Linguard Caldwell. She was loved dearly by her stepfather, Connell Emmett

Caldwell, and stepmother, Connie McCormick. Ashley went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday,

January 9, 2024, at 7:51 AM at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She was

preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles Dexter Linguard, Sr. and Harriett Louise Jenkins

Linguard, along with her paternal grandfather, Paul McCormick, and her dear and special aunt, Linda

Diane McCormick-Smith.

A Time to Live

Ashley was the product of Richland School District Two Schools, having graduated from Spring Valley

High School in June 2005. She was employed by Aflac for several years; but just recently, she was so

excited to start her new employment at the C.M. Tucker Nursing Care Center as a nutritionist assistant.

Ashley loved her job and found gratification in helping others.

On August 22, 2021, Ashley married the love of her life, Oger “Ogie” Guess. She was a devoted and

loving wife. Although Ogie cooks at a local hotel, Ashley did not allow him to cook in “her” kitchen

because that was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved to cook meals for her husband and children;

and she put so much love into everything she prepared for her family and friends. Her specialties

included macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, and cornbread. Ashley was just like her maternal

grandmother when it came to cooking, she rarely measured anything but always knew the exact amount

of seasonings and spices she needed to make an unforgettable dish.

A Time to Cherish

If you asked Ashley what her most prized possessions in life were, she would have answered, “my kids,

my husband and my entire family and friends”. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her

beloved husband, Oger “Ogie” Guess; and her four children: Cameron DeVonte’ Linguard-McCormick,

Jayden Jerome McCormick, Ariyanna Neshae’ Evans, and Iliyah Skye’ Evans, all of Columbia, South

Carolina. She also leaves four stepchildren to cherish her memory. She adored her parents and

stepparents, Connell Emmett and Carole Caldwell of Columbia, South Carolina and Cornell and Connie

McCormick of St. Cloud, Florida. She was best friends with her sister, Denesha Cambrai’ McCormick of

Columbia, South Carolina; a loving big sister to Alana Martin of Columbia, South Carolina; and she

adored her special sister, Sammelia McGill White of Columbia, South Carolina. Ashley also had a special

brother who she loved dearly, Kodi Jermaine Brown of Columbia, South Carolina; he affectionately called

her “slim”. She loved her paternal grandmother, Pauline McCormick of Columbia, South Carolina. She

had a loving relationship with her mother and father-in-law, Cynthya and Oger L. Guess, II of Dixiana,

South Carolina; and five brothers and sisters-in-law: Edward A. Guess, Keisha Brooks, Kutorah Jackson,

Christopher Guess, and Dorothy Guess, all of Dixiana, South Carolina. She also loved dearly her maternal

aunts and uncles: Randy Brown, Charles Dexter Linguard, Jr., Carlton Delvin Linguard, Jr., Craig Donnell

Linguard, Christie Donetta Linguard and Cynthia “Cindy” Danita Linguard Gore, all of Columbia, South

Carolina. As well, she loved her paternal aunts and uncles: Lottie Washington of Raleigh, North Carolina,

Deborah Miller, James (Darlene) McCormick, Doris Spry, and Manuel Scott (Regina) McCormick, all of

Columbia, South Carolina. A host of cousins will remember Ashley for her love and devotion to them.

Ashley cherished the special bond that she shared with her cousins and sister/friends: Sherlyn Leshore,

Dwana Coleman, Ashnique Brown and Ronda Dickerson. She loved spending time with them.
