Willis Clifton Wise was born on March 26, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Daniel Lee Wise, Sr. and Ethel Lee Wise. Willis departed this earthly journey on November 6, 2019.
Willis attended the then known Blessed Martin de Porres Catholic School for his early years of education through middle school. He was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School Class of 1959 where he excelled in track and football. It was under the coaching of Charles Frank Bolden, Sr. which began him on his journey with a football scholarship to Iowa State. He graduated from South Carolina State College Class of 1967 and excelled in football under Coach Willie Jeffries.
On August 25, 1961, he was united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweetheart, the former Geraldine Snipe.
Willis proudly served his country with the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1963.
At an early age, Willis was baptized at Blessed Martin de Porres Catholic Church where he served faithfully until his death.
Willis was employed by the Internal Revenue Service for thirty-two dedicated years. After retirement he worked at H&R Block.
Willis dedicated his life to his family, friends, and community. Over his life span he was a Pop Warner Football Coach, Townsmen, and active member of various church organizations.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Lee Sr. and Ethel Lee Wise; brother, Daniel Lee Wise Jr.; and devoted wife, Geraldine Snipe Wise.
Willis, better known as “Butch” and “Flip”, will surely be missed by all who knew him, especially Katina, Kaviana “K.K.”, Kwyliq “Q.”, and Kylon. His personal involvement with family and friends, and love for his daughter, grandchildren, sister, nieces and nephews will be truly missed and never forgotten.
Surviving are his daughter, Katina Willis Wise; his grandchildren, Kaviana Wise Holmes, Kwyliq Willis Daniel Wise-Hale, and Kylon Rolondo Wise Boyles; sister, Eliza Wise McDowell; nieces, Monique McDowell Esq., Michelle Wise; nephew, Troy Wise Weeks; sisters-in-law, Leola (James) Tucker, Helen Taylor, Lavonne Snipe and Emma Snipe Taylor; brothers-in-law, Leroy Snipe, Jr., Johnson (Cynthia) Lee, and Robert (Ivory) Julius; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
