Mr. Willie Coye Williams, III, was born on November 23, 1952, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late
Dr. W. Coye Williams, Jr. and Mary Alice Cook Williams. He traded mortality for immortality
on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 in Columbia, SC.
At an early age, he was given the nickname “Mike” by his uncle. That name was used
throughout his life by most of his family and friends. His colleagues more frequently call him
“Big Will”. As a toddler, the family relocated and his formative years were spent in Augusta,
Georgia.
Mike attended schools in the Richmond County School System, including Silas X. Floyd and
John M. Tutt. He graduated from T.W. Josey High School in the class of 1970. While attending
Josey, he played varsity football and baseball. After graduation, he proudly served in the United
States Air Force and later matriculated at Paine College.
He had a long and successful work history. However, he was most proud of the more than 20
years he spent as a Juvenile Corrections Officer at the Augusta and Atlanta Youth Development
Centers. He worked diligently mentoring countless teenage young men. He always wanted to be
a positive influence on “his boys” by sharing the Bible as well as life lessons.
Mike was a faithful member of Beulah Grove Baptist church until failing health intervened. He
proudly served on the Senior Choir and the Male Chorus. He was also an active member of the
Adult Sunday School Class.
Mike first met his bride, Jennette Berry, as a third grader at Silas X. Floyd Elementary School.
They officially became Mr. and Mrs. Willie Coye Williams, III in June of 1972. To this union,
two beautiful daughters were born. This holy matrimony continued for more than 52 years.
Willie Coye Williams, III is survived by his loving and devoted family, his wife, Jennette Berry
Williams; two daughters, Tikesha Williams and Miranda Williams Staples; grandchildren,
