Willie Lee Porterfield was born on September 14, 1942, to Elizabeth Porterfield Caldwell and the late James Davis in Springfield, South Carolina. He departed this earthly journey on February 9, 2020.
Willie was educated in the Richland County School system and was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Navy, where he served for four years.
Willie was affectionately known as “Batman” to his co-workers and more recently “Mr. Willie P” to family and friends. He was truly a provider for his family, as he retired three times from jobs that he loved. He worked for Honeywell, formally known as Allied Chemical, for 30 plus years, retiring in 2001. He then worked for Richland County School District I, and most recently, O’Reilly Auto Parts, where he retired in 2020.
A true believer of Jesus Christ, Willie loved sharing the Word of the Lord with everyone he came in contact with. He also loved his animals and livestock and was an awesome cook, well known for his famous hash and BBQ sauce.
Willie was proceeded in death by two daughters, Phynette Porterfield and Hope Johnson.
Willie leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife of almost 50 years, Elaine Porterfield; two daughters, Chautauqua LaTrell Porterfield of Charlotte, NC and Erica (Jamaar) Ray of Columbia, SC; one son, Rodney Wilson of Society Hill, SC; two granddaughters raised in the home, Ariel Wilson of Eastover, SC and Domonique (Antonio) Riley of Charleston, SC; one brother, Ronald Davis of Columbia, SC ; five sisters, Hattie Porterfield of Adelphi, MD, Jackie (James) Powell of Goldsboro, NC, Dorothy Smith of Dover, DE, Mary Louise Porterfield and Dorothy Young both of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Ward (Alice)Wilson of Philadelphia, PA; six sisters-in-law, Rebecca Harris, Lottie Anderson and Gwendolyn (Alfonzo) Shiver of Eastover, SC, Patricia Randolph of Hopkins, SC, Mary Wilson and Diane (Roland) Johnson of Columbia, SC; a bonus daughter, Kendra (Kevin) McCutcheon of Liverpool, NY; five grandsons; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
