Mr. Wilkie Brantley Obituary

Brother Wilkie  Brantley departed this earthly life on June 25, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born to the  late  Freddie  Brantley  and Thelma  Garner  Brantley on May 5, 1941, in  Hampton County,  South  Carolina.

From childhood,  Wilkie always displayed a wonderful and kind spirit to all who came in contact with him. He loved the Lord, and enjoyed attending church at St. John Baptist Church. He was well known and loved by all who knew him. After relocating to Columbia, SC,  Wilkie was often found  at  the “Hot Spot” off Farrow Road where he would sit and laugh with the guys for hours at a time. Although he had no  formal  school training,  he  was well-versed in life skills and had a great memory. His parents homeschooled him and it was evident that they instilled the value of family relationships, fostered a love for God in him, and taught him how to survive the  storms of  life.  True to the spirit of a Brantley, he loved to tease people, make jokes, and would often  give comical expressions that many found hilarious. His family brought joy to his life, whenever he would see a family member he would burst into the biggest smile.  He definitely had a mind of his own and did not have any trouble letting you  know how  he  felt  about  anything.  If you ever misquoted something  or  forgot  the  details  of  a  story, Wilkie would be sure to correct you and tell you the facts.

Thelma, his mom, often expressed her concern as to who would take care of Wilkie upon her death.  Following his mother’s death, God faithfully provided for and took care of him.  In fact, after following his mother’s death, Wilkie took over the household chores and cared for his elderly father.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Sidney ( Lizzie) , David (Gracie) ,  Malachia, Thomas, and  Ben; and sisters:  Lillie  Mae (Johnnie) and Betty Jane.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories and await the coming of Christ his brother, Lloyd (Minnie) Brantley; sister: Ada Williams; sisters–in–law: Katheryn and Catherine Brantley;  brother-in-law: Samuel  Wright; a special caregiver/friend, Georgia Patterson; a host of nieces and nephews, church members, and friends.
