I have fond memories of Walter working at Durham County Library. He was always dedicated to helping others and always had a kind word to share. Walter will be missed but not forgotten as he had a positive impact on customers and staff at Durham County Library.

Walter Metz was my favorite boss at Reference. He used to jokingly call me "the trustee" for 2+ decades of service to the library. One of things we both shared a love for was dressing up for Halloween, and so I put up his picture as Ernest Hemingway from our last one.....he's gone fishing now and truly at peace.

I was so sorry to hear about Walters passing. When Walter worked at the Durham County Library in NC we became very good friends. I enjoyed the talks we would have about family and life. He was a very good person, fair, humorous and wanted the best for everyone. He will truly be missed.
My condolences to the family and friends of Walter Metz.

Walter, my good friend.
So sad to hear you had to go,
I valued our friendship to no end,
More than you could probably know.
Much time would always pass,
Before we chatted on the phone,
But when we spoke again at last,
It was like you had never gone.
How I had planned to come and sail
In your sail boat one sunny day,
So now too late, that's not an option,
For too soon you went away.
So here's a toast to Walter Metz,
A generous spirit who was tops,
As great a guy as it gets,
And forever, go SC GAMECOCKS!

Walter was an exceptional person, well versed in many areas and friend of many. His work friends were important to him as well as those he had known for many years. Walter could be a very jovial person, loved to argue the political views of his chosen party, and enjoyed spirited conversations or even games of chess with worthy opponents. Those that knew Walter, know he only allowed each person to really know the person he wanted to portray to that individual. Leaving this world so quickly, leaves many unanswered questions to many who knew and loved him. Hopefully in death, he found the peace and comfort he was seeking. Those he leaves behind must be content in the fact that he will no longer suffer the complications of diabetes or the problems of this earthly existence. May you rest in peace, Walter; and, may your friends and loved ones find comfort in the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I would like to extend my condolences for the loss of your love one. Jehovah God made a promise to us all at Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death.
