Timothy “Tim” McDaniel Pearson, devoted husband and caring father, was an exceptional individual.
Son of Robert Pearson of Wallaceville (Fairfield County, SC) and Mittie Adams Pearson (Fairfield County),
Tim was known for his sharp wit, deadpan humor, and resolute viewpoints. His conviviality inspired joy,
laughter, and introspection in everyone, making him unforgettable to all who knew him.
Tim retired as a Lieutenant Colonel (0-5) after 20 years of service in the US Army, including two tours in
Vietnam. He taught at Booker T. Washington High school in Columbia, SC prior to entering active duty.
Throughout his subsequent military and encore careers, he continued to guide many through their
educational and professional journeys. He taught Military Science at NC A&T State University and
managed Job Corps centers on behalf of MINACT, Inc. He retired a second time after serving as a Case
Manager at the Columbia (SC) Housing Authority.
Tim was actively involved in civic affairs. His commitment to community included voter registration
drives, driving voters to the polls and documenting the SC NAACP’s Annual King Day at the Dome, all
while wearing one of his conversation-starter T-shirts. Beyond his professional and community
commitments, he was an avid golfer who won amateur golf tournaments. He also enjoyed
photography, capturing life’s moments and Earth’s beauty through his lens.
Tim was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma (Stacey) Hoffman, Madeline (Eddie) Watson, Eunice
(infant); and four brothers— Robert, Jr. (Dorothy); Willis “Bill” (Maureen); Richard “R.W.” (Maxine); and
Albert.
Tim is survived by his spouse of 70 years, Emma M. Pearson; children, Timothy S. (Elvira), Wanda,
Winfred, and Stacey; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Melvin (Juanita).
